Dropbear and Panda GTFO
It’s time to recharge, refocus, and re-evaluate our next great adventures.
It’s almost next week. And next week means a week away from Calgary and over to nearby Canmore for a much-needed Dropbear and Panda creative retreat. It’s been nearly two years since we last travelled, and both Jennifer (Panda) and I (Dropbear) desperately need a get-away to fire up the creative juices.
Over the past six years, “Dropbear and Panda Productionz” has created a lot of content:
- Written, shot, edited, and starred in more than 50 short films. And not to brag, but totally to brag, we’ve also won several awards and have been nominated for many more;
- We’ve written, produced, directed and co-starred in kickass music videos (High Strung Downers, Jingle Cat);
- We wrote, co-directed, and performed a one-act play called “STUMPED” to rave reviews;
- Wrote, produced, and directed a couple of high-end commercials (Travel, Talnea);
- Produced, recorded, edited, and released 90 podcast episodes (Spotify);
- And have travelled the world for film festivals and to scout locations for our next big adventure(s).
These projects have ranged from big-budget to some-budget to no-budget.
It’s staggering to look back on everything we’ve done — some of it is really good, some of it is terrible, and some things never even made it over the finish line, but each and every project has been a vehicle for us to get better and learn more.
The Dropbear and Panda Podcast is at the top of the list to dust off, look at, and decide how to improve it to make it evergreen content instead of timely content (and even make some money doing it). Perhaps there’s a tie-in or a place for the RebelRebel Podcast in the Dropbear and Panda Universe? Hmmmmm.
Beyond the podcasts, we’ve got some really great concepts and initial scripts for a couple of television shows and short films; and somewhere in all of this lives a feature film or book that’s been teasing at the corners of my brain involving assassins, motorcycles, and buried treasure.
That’s what next week looks like — time away from suburbia (even if it’s just 45 minutes west) to plot and scheme and relax and create and write. The Dropbear and Panda motto has always been and always will be, “We do what we want.”
